8. Police equipment and support systems
 
  Article 61-Weapons and arms  
61.1 Weapons and arms  
  Police require access to reliable and advanced weapons capable of being used in response to force and when the application of force is necessary.  
  All police officers should be issued as standard issue a sidearm.  
  Furthermore, all police officers engaged in tactical and patrol work shall be issued with a semi-automatic rifle.  
61.2 Personal possession of sidearm  
  Side arms of police are issued for personal possession and a police officer is required to retain this weapon at all times, excluding sickness and holidays.  
  In regards to rifles, all rifles shall be checked out and checked in to a police station armoury at the beginning and the end of a shift.  
  Absolutely no rifles or any other high calibre, high powered weapons are permitted to be stored in police cars or other premises outside of a standard shift.
